Many years ago I was lucky enough to take a class with a needle felt artist, Lyn Slade at the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival held every year in Rhinebeck, NY.  She had published a book and also held classes at her home.  I took a class there as well.  She showed me all her tools and stash of wool roving and I was totally hooked.  Knowing there was a way to work wool in a ‘painterly’ way was such an eye opener.  Needless to say, she inspired me.   

Around the same time, I had also taken a class in wet felting from Sally Dillon in Easthampton, MA.  Although the process of wet felting was very physical, I was very encouraged and intrigued that wool roving could change into felt in a different way, other than with needles.  

I enjoy using the photographs I have taken over the years as subjects for these pieces or sometimes it is just something from my imagination.  I have been inspired by these artists and really appreciate their work with felting.
